Hello!
The real secret to self worth is.......drum roll....waiting with baited breath......
This question has burbled away in the back of my mind throughout my 40 years of working. I know 40 years is such a long time!
When I look at what drives my ambition, my work ethic, my focus and consistent search for "my dream job"....I was in the job market a lot!......I did have feelings of self-doubt which is linked to lack of self-worth. There is an element of wanting to prove something to myself, to those around me that I am indeed enough...and these feelings continue.
Don't get me wrong. I don't walk around feeling useless or sorry for myself. I do ponder deeply and often about what exactly drives my work ethic. And yes there is the positive aspect of wanting to help people live better, lead better and get more satisfaction in their careers, but what is my personal motivator? When I figure it out I will let you know.
My angst about this is so much less than it used to be because I have studied the science of motivation and human behaviour through my Coaching Psychology degree and coach training, and I am very happy to share with you that all these feelings of inadequacy are completely normal.
And thank goodness there are strategies that can stop the self-doubt and lack of self-worth thoughts from wreaking havoc today that create regrets tomorrow. So not allow your murky mindset to stop you from pursuing your dream career and finding a way to do work
1. you love
2. the world needs
3. that pays you what you want
Just like there has to be day and night, happy and sad, black and white we as humans need the contrast of different thoughts and emotions. So in a way we have to feel a bit of self-doubt and lack of self-worth or confidence or fear of failure or not being enough, almost as a necessary part of us so that we do stay growing and searching and doing things. If we were 100% happy and satisfied we might all just sit around and be lushes! LOL!
Finding ways to reframe how you are thinking about something is often helpful.
So...speaking of frames and ways of thinking....here is my video lesson on the framework that I follow myself and teach to help professionals and entrepreneurs get a deeper understanding of their special gifts and how to use them in their work and to find the role that amplifies these gifts. (this is actually one big way to grow your self-worth)
Here is the 4th video in the Leading Your Career series:
Let me know what you are doing that lights you up?
Till next time
Be well

Where are you plugging in? I would love your help if you are a female over 50 and starting a tech-related or online business, or know of a woman who is. My definition of a tech start-up is a new startup founder - so they may or may not be making money yet, but are using the internet to market and sell their product or the product they are developing is a software solution or app. I have a plan to help women tech founders monetise faster and would love to validate my course outline and pricing...
How are you feeling as we head toward the last few weeks of 2020? You may find this hard to believe but I have been wracking my brain trying to think of topics and ways to inspire you. From my research and conversations with clients and students, one of the recurring themes that pops up when I ask them what challenges them the most is their own thinking. Those negative thoughts and criticisms are so loud and it's so hard to change the channel when they are chiming away! And then come the...
